The Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni Returns To Germiston On 21 October 2018!

The Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni African Championship race is one of the biggest African triathlon series which makes it one of the sixteen 5150 races across the globe.

The event has been hosted successfully at Germiston Lake since 2013 attracting close to 1400 athletes each year since its inception growing to become the biggest standard distance triathlon in South Africa. The event has become one of the most popular and enjoyable triathlons in South Africa, known for being doable for novice athletes while providing a real test for professionals.

In addition to thousands of amateur athletes, the event was frequented by South African Olympic triathletes along with some of South Africa’s best long distance triathletes. This race has seen some of South Africa’s brightest young prospects and some seasoned veterans take to the stage – many of whom have gone on to compete at IRONMAN 70.3 events.

The 2018 edition of the Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni sees the introduction of the FUNTRI distance. The FUNTRI is a short distance which allows novice athletes to enjoy the day in a non-threatening environment. The FUNTRI comprises a 400m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run while the Olympic distance will be 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run.
