Edenglen based Mon Reve Dance Studio is owned by Kerry Vida, a qualified Associate Cecchetti ballet teacher and Associate Modern teacher for the Association of International Dance Teachers. Vida teaches ballet and modern dancing to all ages from four years of age to adult.
You can choose from beginner to advanced classes and Vida accommodates all genders. ‘Mon Reve means ‘My Dream’ and has been running since 2007. I have taught for 23 years and have been so blessed to share my passion for dance. I believe that dance is good for your body, mind and soul. Just as music is so diverse, so are we all, and there is a dance form for everyone,’ said Vida.
Vida tries to accommodate students at times that suit them where she can, depending on the dance form chosen, age, level and availability of the studio. Mon Reve is a recreational dance studio with a high standard, allowing dancers to achieve according to their talent and what they are trying to achieve. ‘Some of my dancers attend the studio purely for exercise and the friendly, fun environment. Other dancers enter examinations and have a passion for dance to take their dancing to vocational levels,’ she said.
‘Our studio allows individuals to grow and express themselves through dance in a safe, home based studio. Our dancers are exposed to outside events such as festivals, dance encore productions, the Val Whyte bursary – awarded to promising young dancers – and they are encouraged to attend workshops to expand and experience the wealth of knowledge from working with other teachers who share the love of dance. There is also stage work and all the exciting aspects of costume and theatre,’ Vida elaborated.
Under lockdown and in these trying times, the studio is diversifying and offers line dancing, Salsa and Latin American, and if dancers of any age or dance preference are looking take up classes, Vida will source teachers to fulfil that requirement.
