Top Spots To Visit In KwaZulu-Natal

Travel Counsellors is highlighting KwaZulu-Natal’s (KZN’s) gems, from its golden beaches and year-round sunshine to game parks and so much more.

Durban

Durban is the third largest city in South Africa. It is laid-back but busy, and is Africa’s largest port. Durban is a popular seaside destination and is fondly referred to as ‘Durbs’ by the locals.

Ladysmith

This is a great starting point for tours of the Anglo-Zulu battlefields and the Anglo-Boer battlefields. The Ladysmith Siege Museum is definitely worth a visit. Ladysmith is home to one of South Africa’s most famous music groups, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, who have won multiple Grammy awards.

Pietermaritzburg

Just 80 km inland from Durban, it is one of South Africa’s best-preserved Victorian cities.  It is also the province’s capital city. Here you will find representation of our ‘Rainbow Nation’ with a mix of Zulu and Indian people, South Africans of British heritage and a university student population, making it a lively mix.

Sodwana Bay

Sodwana has spectacular coral reefs in a national marine protected area. It is among the southernmost in the world and is a scuba-diving and snorkelling mecca. Plus there is a large number of game fish. Off-season, Sodwana Bay is paradise. In season, it is incredibly busy.

Umhlanga Rocks

Once a small seaside village, Umhlanga Rocks has grown to now being a bustling lively tourist and residential town. Its seafront pedestrian walkway takes in an old lighthouse, golden beaches, holiday resorts and glitzy hotels. It has great shopping and good restaurants. The area is jam-packed during the peak season.
