On 9 September 2020, Kensington-based Kencare Soup Kitchen fed 62 people a hearty meal of pasta, and vegetables that were provided by Chefs with Compassion.Â
Everyone enjoyed their meal and were given a loaf of bread on departure. Some people were given small parcels of mielie meal, rice, beans and tea. The chicken pieces, side dishes of carrot and pineapple salad, and fried cabbage were donated by Santha Naidoo.
The soup kitchen thanked people who donated towards their bread fund. They also received goodies that were donated by: Pandora Neighbourhood, Kensington CAN – packaged soups, Hollard – water squeeze bottles and Altron company – Joy and Hope mixed soup jars.
‘These will all go a long way in helping to fill empty bellies. As always, we wish to thank everyone for their generosity. We are always in need of something: soup powders, bars of soap, tinned goods, bulk rice, ImmunoMeal and bulk mielie meal. It is only through people’s generosity that we can continue to help out. So if anyone knows of companies that are willing to donate, it will be put to good use,’ said Linda Lee Cerbone from the Kencare Soup Kitchen. Donated goods can be dropped off at the Kensington Methodist church in Roberts Avenue on a Wednesday or Friday morning.
