Kencare Soup Kitchen volunteer, Linda Lee Cerbone, announced that the kitchen was given the go-ahead to reopen on 3 February 2021.
‘We are so excited to be back, doing what needs to be done, especially now that another informal settlement has gone up in flames. Thanks to Kensington CAN and many others, we are able to feed and help with all the necessary things they need,’ said Cerbone.
The kitchen received donations while they were closed, enabling them to add to parcels. They managed to pack 41 parcels and loaves of bread. They also received sanitisers from CAN. The organisation also received cash donations.
‘I was able to buy chicken, vegetables and rice to make a biryani and carrot salad that everyone enjoyed. I also bought soap, quick-cook samp and pasta for future meals. We are also desperately in need of masks,’ said Cerbone. She thanked everyone for their generosity. Should you wish to donate food, you can deliver the items at the Kensington Methodist Church in Roberts Avenue.
