A Magical Night Of Food And Fun At Adega Bedfordview
Chad Spade, The Magician, Andre the Hilarious Hypnotist and Brendon Peel, The Mentalist Magician.

Master foodie Vis Naidoo attended Adega’s recent meal and magic show, called a ‘A Night of Magic’. They promised a sensational evening of magic, and that is exactly what they delivered.

‘It was really refreshing to see so many people enjoying the fabulous entertainment and delectable food that Adega is renowned for. It was also lovely to see this calibre of entertainers – who have wowed crowds across the world with their amazing talents – perform right here in our neighbourhood.

I also got to be part of the show, volunteering to be hypnotised by Andre the Hilarious Hypnotist, who has been doing this for 28 years and needs no introduction. I believe all the hypnotised participants were hilarious, including me, and I still have not watched the footage. Maybe it’s better that I don’t see the stuff I was made to do by Andre!

The first act was Chad Spade, The Magician. He was incredible and will leave you asking ‘how did he do that?’ with every act. He engages the guests with most of his acts and you’ll love his humour too!

The show also featured Brendon Peel, The Mentalist Magician, who was brilliant with his mental ‘tricks’, that will leave you in awe. He’s also very daring, very funny and extremely witty – so better be careful of what you say and wear when you attend the next magical evening.

There were two ticket options: show only or a three course meal and show. We had the meal and show tickets, which is an excellent choice.

The three course meal includes a welcome drink and we opted for the virgin options of each of the two choices – Strawberry Daiquiri and Mojito.

The meal had a choice of four starters, four mains and three desserts – all your Adega favourites and you’ll probably wish you could order them all.

Now for the food, which was promptly served, well presented and simply delish. Our waitron, Thuli, was an absolute star, and her love for what she does just shines through as she patiently and attentively took care of us.

For starters, my wife had the Camarão alhinho – six large prawns in a lemon butter and garlic sauce that was just sublime. I had the Picanha Trinchado, which is not on their menu and was divine. I love Picanha steak and having this tender meat in their yummy trinchado sauce was a great choice. I found myself dunking the fresh Portuguese bread into the abundance of sauce as it was so yum! The other two choices were Snails and Chourico.

For the main course, I had the prawn and langoustine platter with eight queen prawns and two langoustines, with chips and rice. Adega is synonymous with seafood and this platter ticked all the boxes with tender and tasty prawns and well-seasoned langoustines with a lemon butter sauce to lift the already great flavour of the shellfish. The chips were just amazing and I kept coating them with the lemon butter from the prawns and chomping them with delight.
My wife had the Marisco Platter, which had a lovely piece of kingklip, two prawns and calamari. We generally share all our dishes so I can report back on the most succulent calamari, which were full of flavour and felt like butter in your mouth. The other options for mains were the LM Full Chicken and Picanha Steak.
Berry Pavlova was my wife’s choice for dessert, which was light and airy, and loaded with flavour from all the fresh berries married with fresh cream. I had the Chocolate Brownie, a light, airy spongy cake with great chocolate flavour that was well matched with vanilla ice-cream. The third option was Malva Pudding.
I ended my meal with an espresso, which normally comes with an aguardiente (fire-water, clear alcoholic drink), which I skipped.

I love the Magic Show and meal concept. This is a great option to have an amazing meal and be entertained by spectacular performers. I noted that many larger tables must have chosen the ticket only option as they ordered the Familia platters to share across the table. This is a favourite of many Adega patrons and it’s a great value option to get the best of Adega’s famous chicken, succulent grilled calamari and 1kg of their amazing prawns. I highly recommend the Magic Show as well as all the food options we chose and obviously the Familia platter, which is one of my favourites.’
