Kaylee’s Eatery in Bedfordview has been honoured with the Best Vegetarian Restaurant and Best Vegan Restaurant Readers’ Choice Awards.
The Best of Ekurhuleni Readers’ Choice Awards has remained a barometer of what’s hot, hotter and hottest in Ekurhuleni since 2015. Our aim is to inspire growth and prosperity in local businesses and organisations.
‘It’s a big deal for us to win this award,’ said owner Kaylee Gottschalk. ‘It’s a big move to market yourself as a vegan-friendly restaurant because not everyone’s vegan and you’re unsure of how people will respond. Most of our customers aren’t vegan, but flexitarian, and they love our food. Our mission is to encourage people to make a change by showing them that vegan food isn’t boring. We’re opening people’s minds, and that can create a big difference. The fact that we’ve been recognised for our food, regardless of being vegan, is great. We have a small but amazing team and we put so much work into every single dish we create.’
This was a busy year for Kaylee’s, which launched their own range of frozen meals that are available in their vegan supermarket. Gottschalk said they want to expand into food production and fans can look forward to more frozen meal options as well as a Kaylee’s cookie line.
This festive season, customers can look forward to a Christmas-themed High Tea every Sunday before Christmas (bookings are essential), Christmas cakes, gingerbread men and mince pies. The menu will also include a Christmas-themed gingerbread man milkshake as well as a peppermint candy cane milkshake.
Dog lovers will be thrilled that a portion of the restaurant is being converted into a dog friendly, New York style cafe, which will be called ‘Central Bark’, with an outside area too. This will be open in 2022. Gottschalk’s aim is to create a space where dogs can be unleashed and are able to roam freely or just relax next to their owners while enjoying a dog-friendly meal. Dog birthday parties are also welcome.
