OneSA Movement Helps Hundreds Of Families With Food Parcels And Hand Sanitiser In Cape Town

Mmusi Maimane and One South Africa Movement (OneSA) activists have already distributed 15,000 litres of hand sanitisers to vulnerable communities in the Western Cape and Gauteng – as part of the #TogetherWeCanWin Campaign to help during COVID-19.

The next leg of this campaign involved supplementing the provision of hand sanitiser with hundreds of food parcels, which were given to families in need in the Masiphumelele informal settlement in the south of Cape Town. At 14h00 on Tuesday 7 April 2020, the first distribution of food packages to vulnerable families took place. 100 families in Masiphumelele were identified and each package will feed a family for two weeks. They plan to follow this up with two further distribution drives to a further 400 families.

OneSA Movement is partnering with Yebofresh, an online shopping service that delivers popular groceries to areas that are generally unserved by most formal retailers. Yebofresh currently serves Imizamo Yethu, Langa, Khayelitsha, Mfuleni and Gugulethu and is rapidly expanding across the greater Cape Town area.

OneSA will continue to work throughout the COVID-19 lockdown period and call on South Africans to partner with them in making a meaningful change by protecting and providing for the poor and most vulnerable citizens during this trying time.
