SetteBello restaurant, situated at The Italian Club Johannesburg (ICJ), is iconic for serving real Italian Neapolitan pizza. The restaurant is owned by Pino Di Benedetto, who is Italian, and Miro Marques, who is Portuguese. They bring different skill sets to the business.
‘We think the restaurant is a great feature for the community to have and the ICJ is a perfect location for an Italian restaurant instead of a mall,’ said Eluisa Di Benedetto. ‘Families can come through and do more than just eat – there is a pool as well as soccer and tennis fields for the children and adults to keep fit while enjoying themselves.’
SetteBello prides themselves on their authentic Italian pizza. ‘We are known for our Neapolitan pizza – the dough is really different than that of a regular pizza. When you pick up a slice of a Neapolitan pizza, it is floppy and easily foldable. Our chef is trained by an Italian chef to ensure that the culture comes through in how the food is prepared,’ added Di Benedetto.
Turning challenges into opportunities
‘During Level 5 and 4 of lockdown we stayed relevant and continued communicating with customers on all our digital platforms. The lockdown presented an opportunity for us to be innovative. We started making frozen meals and doing takeaways, which we did not do before. Lockdown was also an opportunity for us to close and clean shop by getting rid of things we did not need and creatively introducing new things,’ said Di Benedetto.

SetteBello has collaborated with The URBAN Markets for the upcoming Heritage Weekend Market, taking place from 25 – 27 September 2020. Guests can take part in the celebrations, eat Italian food, visit upmarket boutique-style stalls and have a beautiful day out with family and friends. ‘We look forward to doing what we love most – living ‘la dolce vita’ (the good life) with you,’ said Di Benedetto.
