East Rand-based Foodmate is the retail branch of an already established cold storage and distribution entity that supplies frozen and chilled products nationally, and was born out of the need to supply customers with quality products at reduced prices.
Their online shop features frozen deli meals like lasagne as well as frozen chicken, fish, meat and vegetables. Working with a multitude of suppliers allows them to source a vast range of products as well as hand-pick the best quality products.
This, coupled with their existing cold storage and distribution infrastructure that is already well established, allows them to offer customers retail products at factory store prices, making them the first factory store for groceries.
Foodmate has been in the food and, specifically, the poultry industry for over 25 years. Traditionally, they have supplied the wholesale and retail sectors with poultry products nationally, which meant that consumers would travel to supermarkets throughout South Africa in order to source their products. They can now reach the end customer from the comfort of their own home, allowing Foodmate to save more people more money through their ever expanding range of products.

There are many places offering frozen meals and food online, what makes Foodmate unique?
‘Firstly, we have a national distribution network of temperature-controlled vehicles, which means that your stock will remain frozen until it reaches your door. All our products are stored in our temperature controlled 4000 metric ton cold storage facility, which operates at a temperature of -20 degrees Celsius. Stock is fine-picked for customers inside the freezer and loaded straight onto a vehicle that maintains a temperature of -25 degrees while transporting. Therefore until the product is offloaded at the customer’s front door, the cold chain remains unbroken, which maintains the integrity and quality of our products. The cold chain is therefore maintained and the shelf life of your products is extended. We also deliver within 24 hours of ordering, which set us apart.
Secondly, through our cold storage and distribution network we can source retail products in bulk. This, along with our already established cold storage facility, allows us to limit costs and pass on cost-savings to our customers. This, along with other aspects, allows us to offer retail packs at wholesale prices.
Our dealings with retailers and wholesalers allows us to keep abreast of product developments and offer our customers the very best that South Africa has to offer.
Lastly, through our existing supplier network we can source products from everywhere, which allows us to not be limited in our offerings. Whether it’s fish from the harbour in Cape Town, pork from Estcourt or chicken from Potchefstroom, we hand-pick our products from the best suppliers to ensure the best quality.’
Foodmate delivers all over Gauteng from their cold storage facility.
