Osteria Rossa Bedfordview came in 9th place in Porcupine Ridge’s Pizzeria Challenge, where consumers could vote for the top 10 pizzerias in South Africa.
Everything in Rossa’s Italian restaurants are selected for authenticity, quality and taste. They aim for a food experience that transports patrons across the sea and into the heart of Europe. Their pizza concept is based on pan cooked pizzas, which are unique to South Africa in their tastes and sizes.
There are three different size offerings: the piccolo for one person, the medium, which can feed two, and the large, which is a twenty-four slice offering that can feed from four to eight. The ingredients are of the highest quality and this, along with the unique size, is a major factor to Rossa’s success. The flour is imported from Italy, the mozzarella is from the best suppliers in South Africa and most of the toppings are imported.
Their dough is made from scratch and given the proper time to rise, while vegetables are chopped and roasted early each morning and again in small batches throughout the day. Tomato sauces for pizza and pasta dishes are made from scratch daily with their own blend of tomatoes and hand cut fresh herbs.
