Taking Part In Veganuary 2020

Veganuary is the world’s largest vegan movement, inspiring people to try vegan for January and throughout the rest of the year. The programme was launched in the UK in January 2014, and is a non-profit organisation that encourages people to try vegan for January and beyond. Luckily, there are places in Bedfordview and surrounds that are either fully vegan or offer vegan options.

According to Veganuary.com, recent Kantar data shows the full impact of the ‘veganuary effect’ with 4.7% of the total UK population giving up animal products in January 2019:

– 1.31 million people gave up animal products in the UK in January 2019 – that’s 4.7% of the total UK population, + 10 times the number of UK sign ups through the Veganuary website.
– 832k (64%) people actively gave up animal products for the first time – that’s 64% of total participants giving veganism a go for the first time.
– 366, 000 people did so specifically as part of Veganuary – more than triple the number of UK sign-ups through the Veganuary website.

Places in Bedfordview that offer vegan options include: Hudsons The Burger Joint, Andiccio24, Lemoni, Kaylee’s Eatery, Plaka Restaurant Eastgate, Doppio Zero, Tashas, Mugg & Bean, Lupa Osteria and Simply Asia. Places in Edenvale: Lexi’s in Flamingo Shopping Centre, Modderfontein, and Sprout in Stoneridge Centre. Seattle Coffee Co and Starbucks offer alternative/vegan milks.

If you feel going vegan is too much, you could try the Flexitarian Diet – a style of eating that encourages mostly plant-based foods while allowing meat and other animal products in moderation. At the end of the day, it’s about being more mindful of your impact on the environment, and how your food is produced.
